Tour Options: 2011 Season
|
1:
Basic Beginners
An opportunity
to get up close and personal with the dogs, just cuddle them, or take
some pictures.
Learn about these amazing athletes that have the capability of
travelling for mile after mile at a steady trot/lope. We will then
harness a team, hook them up to a sled and go for a ride around one of
the trails. While out on the trail we will stop for more photo‘s
and just enjoy the moment. Upon return to base help un-harness, snack
and water the dogs. Warm clothing is advised plus sunglasses
and don‘t forget the camera.
Duration: approximately 1hr which includes 20 – 30 minutes out on the
trail.
Price: $225 per adult

2: Basic Beginners,family
Very similar
to the Basic
Beginners but we cater for Mum, Dad and up to 2 primary school aged
children. Two guides and two sleds so Mum and “Johnny” can
go together and Dad and “Molly” can ride together. Again
some introduction to the dogs, the chance to get as up close and
personal as you want to get to them, then help get a team ready to go
for a ride to see these wonderful dogs working.
Duration: Approximately 1hour with 20-30 minutes on the trail with the
dogs.
Price:
Base charge is $225 per sled (includes 1 person)
To that add:
$25 for each pre-school child
$50 for each primary school child
Our sleds can carry up to 2 passengers - so, as an example, for Mum & Son (who is Year 4) the cost would be $275
(please note we do reserve the right to upgrade larger children to the price of an adult.)

3: Overnighter
Savour a night out with the dogs on a “camp-out”.
Meet us mid afternoon for a meet and greet with the dogs, learn about
the sport of “mushing”, take a hands on approach and help
prepare the team for our excursion, pack our sled bag then we will head
off for a trek that will take us to our base for the night. If the
weather is good we will get some stunning views of the snowy peaks of
Central Otago, maybe catch a lovely red sunset (keep your camera
handy!) before we drop down to a cosy alpine hut for the
night.
The hut is set about 50 metres off of our trail under some bluffs beside
the upper reaches of the Roaring Meg Stream. Once at the hut we will
tend to the dogs to ensure they are unharnessed, fed and watered and
settled before we tend to ourselves. When we are settled in
the hut we will prepare ourselves an evening meal that reflects the local
Otago food fare and maybe a glass of wine that Central Otago is famous for.
Before bed we will give the dogs a few cuddles while checking they are
settled and comfy for the night. Next morning first task will be water
and feed dogs, take in our surroundings as it may have been dark when
we arrived and then cook ourselves a nice hearty breakfast before
preparing the dogs for our return trip back to base where we should
arrive mid morning.
Duration: approx 3pm to 10/10:30am the following day.
Price: $695pp
Clients will be provided with a sleeping bag and fresh liner, headlamp
and meals.
Clients will need to bring their own warm clothing suitable for an
alpine environment.
